Osteoporosis Articles

Osteoporosis comes from the Greek words osteon meaning bone and poros meaning passage. Thus, osteoporosis means "porous bone." Medically speaking, it is a disease wherein the bones become porous due to low bone mass and bone tissue deterioration. It is a silent disease since no symptoms are observed as bone loss happens within the body. The disease is only detected when our bones become so fragile that they easily break and heal in a very slow process. Other symptoms include loss of height and sudden, severe back pain. It may also lead to collapse of the vertebral column, causing curvature of the spine known as kyphosis.
